Class/Field Training
Although We call it "Classroom Training" we typically spend about 50% of the time walking down systems, explaining control screens and explaining flow paths when presenting our classroom training.
Typical Classroom Training Tools
We have numerous methods that we use during our training classes to keep them interesting, interactive and informative. Some of these methods include:
- Introduce the idea of 3-level OJT's where the trainees understand that the levels they will go through or be trained with are:
- Flowpaths and component functions
- System Operation
- System Troubleshooting
- Explanation and use of piping and instrument drawings. We make sure that each trainee knows how to read a P&ID and that they use them to find equipment and flow paths when tracing and identifying components and flow paths listed in the step 1 OJT's
- We are also committed to our trainees understanding how a process control computer works, why the screens are arranged as they are, normal operation and what problems can occur and what to do about those problems.
- We use a team environment, pairing trainees with other trainees to perform "walkdowns" and other exercises. We promote a friendly level of competition in the classes.
- We constantly ask questions and obtain the interaction of everyone in class. We also take a guaranteed break once an hour, but start promptly in 10 minutes. No exceptions.
- Our training aids include simulations recorded from the actual control computers, animations of processes and full sets of "C" or "D" sized P&ID's for participants to color code flowpaths and keep.
Train the Trainer:
It is our goal to create a first-rate training program for a facility and to then work with the client to assist them in taking ownership of the training. To accomplish this task we can provide our clients with instructor guides, all digital training aids and other support such as mentoring and role playing with future trainers.
